Titles in the AFFEW Environmental Resource Collection

The Mason County District Library and A.F.F.E.W., A Few Friends for the Environment of the World, have announced a joint project to create a collection of books, videos and other materials on environmental topics.   “Providing information on environmental issues is one of our goals” said Julia Chambers, AFFEW Vice-President and one of its founders, “and this joint project is great for our group and for all Mason County residents interested in the environment.”   “We are very excited about this new collection and working with the library,” Chambers said, “we held our very first meeting at the Ludington Library in 1989.”

“I wanted to improve our collection of environmental books,” said library director Robert Dickson, “and who better to help with that than members of AFFEW.”    The collection covers a variety of topics from energy conservation to waste disposal, from climate change to future technologies.  “The collection will have children’s books as well as adult titles and include DVD’s and other materials,” Dickson said.

“Some of our members were involved in the selection of books and DVDs,” said Chambers,    “We are even having some members donate books from their own collection to the AFFEW collection at the library.”

The initial collection of over 50 books and DVD’s will be housed at both Mason County libraries; in Ludington and Scottville and will be available to any library patron.  “We will continually add to the collection,” Dickson said, “so we want to encourage AFFEW members as well as area residents to regularly suggest items to be added.”

“The Mason County District Library has always been a great source for environmental information for our members and the community” said Chambers, “and the development of this collection will provide more up-to-date information for area residents.”
